Man cries out over alleged snatching, sale of his house in Aba under duress , petitions IGP for action
A 54-year-old man, Obiora Reuben Mgboma has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu about the alleged take over of his property in Aba, by duress.
Mr. Mgboma who is an indigene of Nteje, Oyi local government area of Anambra State, cried out that the son of his uncle identified as Olisa Mgboma, allegedly connived with some people in Aba, to sell his (Obiora Reuben Mgboma) storey building in Aba.
According to him, the house belongs to him as the eldest son of his father.
He alleged that he got an information that some persons were making a video record of the said property at Okai Street Aba with ostensible intent of selling it, a situation he said, prompted him to rush down to the property to inscribe a ” Not For Sale” notice on the house with a bold red pen.
However, Mgboma who spoke to Journalists at the Zone 9 Police headquarters on Tuesday, said that some persons, including his Uncle’s son, Olisa Mgboma, cleaned the “Not For Sale” notice he had marked on the house.
He said that his Uncle’s son, Olisah started calling him, warning him not to come to Aba again.
These he said, were happening despite the fact that the original documents of the property was in his possession.
He regretted that when he arrived at Aba, a group of men banged at his door, after which he opened his door to behold some deadly-looking men who came with a bus branded with the campaign banners written Alex Otti, probably an act of impersonation or name-dropping.
According to him, he was abducted by the men and taken away to an unknown place where he was threatened with a gun, to surrender his building.
The 54-year- old Mgboma alleged that his Uncle’s son, Olisa Mgboma and one Ikechukwu Ikeweta and other persons were part of the people that forced him to sign a document stating that his house had been sold, a crime he said, happened after his mobile phone had been seized by the men.
” They kept me in a hidden place where I did not eat food , they collected my phone and pointed a gun on my my head to surrender the house which I signed under duress after seeing the gun.
” There was no other column in the paper they gave me to sign, no place for witnesses, only the column for the seller was there.
They warned me not to step my feet on Aba again in my own interest. The next thing I heard was that that my house had been sold.
” That is why I wrote a petition to the zone 9 Police. The Police officers I reported the matter to, collected huge money from me , with an assurance that they culprits would be arrested and prosecuted”.
He however, expressed disappointment that the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) was allegedly frustrating him, by constantly postponing the matter.
According to Mgboma, some of the suspects who were arrested after his petition at Zone 9, were released on bail, without being prosecuted for what they allegedly did.
” My tenants are still living in my house in Aba but people who claimed to have bought it have dug a water borehole in the compound.
” That is why I wrote a petition to the IGP because . I am surprised that someone used a bus branded with the name of Alex Otti to threaten my life.
” How can someone be attempting to tarnish the image of the Governor who is working hard in Abia. Alex Otti is a good man and hard working Governor and that is why I want the Police to do a thorough investigation about those who are using a vehicle branded with his name, to do bad things.”
He insisted that the house was sold with forged documents, saying that he was allegedly forced to sign a document under duress, after being threatened with gun.
Meanwhile, the Lawyer to Mr. Obiora Reuben Mgboma, Mazi Davidson E. Esq, has petitioned the IGP, Olatunji Disu about the matter.
In a petition he wrote, the Lawyer said that there were attempted murder, abduction, threat to life, assault, unlawful invasion of property and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
The petition was dated 19th October, 2026.
Meanwhile, efforts will be made to hear the other sides about the allegations against them, as the ethics of Journalism demands.
