INTERVIEW
My projects in Arochukwu/Ohafia have been allowed to lie moribond, NDC Senatorial candidate Hon. Uko Nkole laments
The Senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abia North zone of Abia State, Hon. Uko Nkole has lamented that several projects he attracted to various communities in Abia North area of Abia State have been abandoned to lie in ruins.
According to him, the life-changing water and electricity projects he attracted in different parts of the Abia North during his eight years service as House of Representatives member representing the good people of Arochukwu/ Ohafia Federal constituency are no longer functioning, because of neglect.
Hon Nkole who spoke to Journalists in his house at Ozu Abam, Arochukwu LGA of Abia State on Friday, said that his decision to run for the seat of Abia North Senate was to bring development to his people.
He noted that having gathered the capacity and rich experience in public service, he stands as the best choice for the people of Abia North.
Nkole said that he brought in Grade-A construction companies to handle the road projects he attracted to Arochukwu Ohafia, a feat he said, was not done by those who occupied the House of Representatives seat before him.
He listed the Umuahia-Bende-Ozu Abam Ohafia road and the Ohafia – Arochukwu roads as some of the roads which he attracted the contract for them to be reconstructed.
He however, regretted that those who took over in 2023 as Abia North Senator and Member representing the Arochukwu/ Ohafia Federal constituency have not been able make enough move to ensure that enough funds are attracted from the Federal government to enable road construction works to be completed.
He recalled that the Old Soldier Ohafia and some other parts of Ohafia which were in terrible conditions before, were fixed following his intervention.
Nkole condemned the attempt by some persons to mention his name after an accident occurred along a road in Ohafia, describing the attack as mischievous and misguided.
He cried out that water project he revamped in Akanu Ohafia which was supplying water to villagers, have been abandoned to lie moribund without intervention, thereby affecting the water needs of Akanu residents and its environs.
” The Akanu Ohafia water project which has over 400, 000 capacity which I facilited its revamp, with Solar Street lights.
And in Akanu Ohafia I facilited about 100 KV Solar farm that was lifting and reticulating the water .
” People were already getting water from their houses . That project was built in 1986 by the then Military Administrator of Old Imo State, Allison Madueke.
” That project, as we speak today, has become morbund . I handed over that project on May 25, 2022 but the project after about two years, suffered a challenge.
” The challenge is that the Solar Farm had a lightening strike which incapacitated the ability of the Solar Farm to supply power to the high lift.
The reticulation has also stopped” Hon. Uko Nkole lamented
He urged Governor Alex Otti to look into the issue, even as he lamented that the current House of Representatives member, and the Senator representing the zone should have long ago, attended to the challenges in the water scheme.
He regretted that many rural communities in Isuikwuato and Umunneochi are suffering in darkness and economic hardship because of they have no good roads and power supply for decades, but promised that the story will change for the better when he takes over.
He however, expressed joy that some clinics and other medical interventions he brought to the Federal Constitution are still being enjoyed by the people.
Hon. Nkole said that he is prepared for the task of the Senate, adding that his party, the NDC has become the true choice of every Abia North and Nigeria at large, owing to the caliber of candidates it is parading, as well as the party’s people-oriented programs.
He described himself as the best among other candidates in the Abia North race.
” I have twelve years experience in the Federal civil service..I have eight years experience in the National Assembly. His Excellency, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is about 7 point something years in the Senate.
I rank above him because I first took an Oath of Office as a member of the National Assembly”.
He made it clear that NDC is very visible in Abia North, Abia State and every part of the country, a situation he attributed to the credibility of Mr Peter Obi, himself and other candidates of the NDC.
He dismissed the claims that Labour Party and All Progressive Congress will sweep the elections in Abia North and other parts of the State, noting that NDC is now the toast of the people.
He also dismissed the brouhaha about Anambra State loan records, saying that the APC is now confused about Peter Obi’s popularity, having not seen anything to investigate him with.
Hon. Nkole however, described the issue as a blessing to Peter Obi as according to him, ” they are even campaigning for Obi and making us more popular “.
He further said that his own campaign in Abia are built on issue-based messages, not abuse or insult to anyone.
Hon. Nkole who thanked the Journalists for all their efforts, urged them to properly sensitise the electorate that Peter is now in NDC and no longer in the LP.
He concluded by urging the good people of Arochukwu/ Ohafia to give him their votes, a mandate he said, would transform the zone tremendously.
