Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has sad that the upcoming political contests must be fought on the strength of ideas and track records, and not on the grounds of intimidation or acrimony.

He reaffirmed that the commitment of his administration and the Labour Party (LP) to violent-free, issue-based politics is major, as the state prepares for the 2027 general elections.

He stated this while inaugurating the State Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council at Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia .

He charged members of the Council and party faithful to focus on performance and constructive engagement, and ensure that there is an open political space for all contenders.

He recalled his directives during the recent State Security Council meeting, where he expressly charged all security agencies across Abia State to guarantee a level playing field for every candidate and political party operating within the state.

He urged members of the campaign council to remain humble servants of the people, stressing that appointment into the council does not make anyone a “boss,” but arrowheads, tasked with driving grassroots mobilization.

He emphasized that the election will be determined at the polling units, mandating all council executives and party stakeholders to return to their respective polling units and wards to mobilize support for Labour Party platform, which is the umbrella upon which all candidates are riding.

He further directed that the Governor’s Campaign Council, individual candidates’ campaign teams, and all pro-groups/stakeholders to operate in complete synergy to deliver a total, resounding victory for the Labour Party across all elective posts.

He used the occasion to announce that an Election Advisory Council will be constituted to provide strategic oversight for the campaign.

He said that the Council will be headed by former Abia State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu.

While giving his vote of thanks, the newly inaugurated Director-General of the Campaign Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for the trust reposed on the team.

Agwu noted that the 2027 election is fundamental to the people of Abia State as it centers on sustaining the “New Abia Ideology” while preserving the massive developmental gains recorded across the state over the last three years.

Membership of the Council, cuts across the 17 LGAs in the state. End
