Abia First Lady equip pupils in public schools, for academic excellence
The Wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla C. Otti, has equipped 1,000 top-performing pupils from 50 public schools with essential learning materials for the new academic session.
The initiative, which marks the second edition of her annual Back-to-School Programme themed “Raising the Standards, Rewarding Excellence,” specifically targeted schools in rural communities to bridge the educational gap and motivate young learners.
Executed in partnership with the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), led by its Chairman, Mrs. Ezihe Lydia Onuoha, and the Safe Tent Care Initiative, Mrs. Otti expressed her vision to expand the programme to benefit over 2,000 pupils in the coming years, with a continued focus on rural areas.
During the distribution, the First Lady charged the beneficiaries to study hard, remain disciplined, and dream boldly.
She also used the opportunity to celebrate the state’s public school students who recently emerged overall champions at the 2026 International Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar, describing their victory as a testament to the immense potential within the public school system.
Commending the dedication of teachers and parents in nurturing the children, Mrs. Otti reiterated her unwavering commitment to youth development and educational empowerment.
“Every investment in our children is an investment in a stronger Abia,” she stated, assuring the public of her continuous support for initiatives that raise the standard of education across the state.
